The Design Museum is now open in its spectacular new location. The Mint Team couldn’t wait to visit, and we certainly weren’t disappointed with what we saw.

Following a long search for larger premises to expand its activities, the Design Museum selected the building in Kensington High Street, West London, as its new home.

A unique landmark building from the 1960’s, the building had stood vacant for over a decade. Thanks to John Pawson and his design team, OMA and Allies and Morrison, the building has been transformed to create a world-class exhibition space to promote and celebrate the best of design.

A collection of hand-blown curiosities inspired by antique fragrance bottles.  Intended as vessels for condiments they sit as exquisite jewel atop a table, transforming the routine act of pouring into a carefully executed ritual. Self proclaimed ‘woman, Londoner and maker’, Alicia Ongay-Perez made a powerful impact at Mint’s exhibition ‘Cabinets of Curiosity’ with her conceptual ceramic objects. Her unique and distinctive work explores the boundaries between conceptual design and contemporary art. This in itself is nothing new but rarely has the subject been examined with work so irresistible and appealing. Take a look at the video below and see for yourself…

It’s been several weeks since LDF and we thought it was about time to rekindle those fond memories of Design Week. If you didn’t get a chance to visit Mint during this year’s London Design Festival, then the good news is our exhibition continues until the 30th of September.  We are exhibiting over 75 designers which include a collaboration with Swedish Design Institute Svensk Form and the Czech Republic based gallery Krehky, as well as emerging artists and designers from all over the globe.

The opening hours of exhibition are Monday – Saturday 10.30 – 18.30 (19.30 on Thursdays).
