Vessels on Vessels – Martyn Thompson
14th April – 1st May 2023

In collaboration with 1882 Ltd, Mint curates Vessels on Vessels, an exhibition blending sculptural artforms with functional objects. The works challenge both designer and maker in terms of scale and intricacy, while paying homage to the exceptional talent of the British ceramic industry and the traditional manufacturing heritage of Stoke-on-Trent.

With this new collection, photographer and designer Martyn Thompson continues his partnership with 1882 Ltd. His extensive new body of work includes hand painted vessels in an array of metallic and earthy tones synonymous with his often romantic, ethereal and abstract aesthetic. The collection includes one-off pieces painted by Thompson as well as pieces created in collaboration with the expert craftspeople at 1882 Ltd.’s factory.

He works his magic in hand decorating each vessel using his exquisite colour palette. Each piece is unique and each vessel a testament to the beauty of the industrial craft that resides in Stoke-on-Trent, five generations later.
