Goodbye Receipts / Hello Receipts by Francesco Zorzi

Francesco Zorzi is an Italian visual designer and illustrator based in Amsterdam. He is the founder of NO-ROCKET, a multidisciplinary creative studio in love with materials and the tactility of things.

For his Goodbye Receipts / Hello Receipts project Francesco Zorzi has created a collection of 5 unique art pieces made out of thermal paper. This was an exploration of the possibilities and potential of receipt paper. A Goodbye to thermal paper of the age of cash registers, and a Hello to thermal paper as a tool for artistic expression. These pieces were featured in Mint’s LDF17 exhibition, Mint Luminates.

Goodbye Receipts / Hello Receipts is the result of in depth research into thermal paper. To produce this collection no ink has been used, no paint, no watercolour and nothing has been printed. Each splash of colour, gradient, cross-hatching is the result of advanced experimentation using heat, chemical agents and friction to reveal the colour dyes embedded inside the paper itself. The project discovers the potential of this material used in our everyday life, creating a new way of using thermal paper, from by-product commodity, to a support for visual expression.

This project aims to change and expand the focus of creative research towards directions that have never been taken, to change the way we look at things out of their context, rising questions and being critical to everything around us.
