Marija Puipaitė lives and works in Vilnius, Lithuania. She received her BA degree in product design from the Vilnius Academy of Arts, before completing an MA in Contextual Design at the Design Academy Eindhoven. She is currently working as an independent product designer and also works for prominent design exhibitions.

For this collection of jewellery ‘Embracing Touch’ Marija Puipaitė has sculpted the pieces to perfectly fit the curves and contours of the body. The jewellery is an extension of a graduate project she created while studying at Design Academy Eindhoven.

Puipaitė has explored the intimate connections jewellery can offer when creating her designs. She has made intuitive decisions about which body parts to focus on, choosing angular areas, as well as focusing on places that allow for softer shapes. She describes the work as “silver and bronze puddles” that “ripple on body landscapes”.

This collection is made from cast silver and bronze. Before casting in metal Puipaitė uses wax that is usually used in dentistry as it is soft and takes the shape of the body easily by melting on a low heat. This method allows the jewellery to be individually customised.

“I take the human body as a tool, and a reason for forms and their function to appear,” she added “I’m taking the design process as a game and trying different ways to exploit the body.”

Dovile Kondrasovaite

Dovile Kondrasovaite is a Lithuanian jewellery designer. She received her BA degree in jewellery and smithery from Vilnius Academy of Arts. She is currently living and working in Birmingham.

For The ‘Flow’ collection Dovile has created contemporary and organic jewellery pieces inspired by the flow of energy and blooming flowers. She has also explored the concept of time which is reflected through her material choices.Embracing Touch © Dovile Kondrasovaite

Dovile has chosen to use raw Baltic Amber and Bog Oak to create this unique jewellery collection. She focused on these materials as they age beautifully and have different qualities making them all special. Additionally, she wanted to modify the image of Amber, using it in a more considered and contemporary way without polishing its surfaces.

Dovile’s main aim was to make objects which cannot be measured within a time scale. She states that the ageing process is an ‘absolutely gorgeous process which naturally creates such great lines, taking seconds or centuries.’

“Over time and with wear the objects I create will change, the surface may rub off a little, may crack and polish naturally again. It is sustainable jewellery which after wearing could be dropped into the bog or the sea again to continue the process.”
