From the original throws to cashmere coats, the aim is to drape the customer in cashmere that is of the highest quality, designed and treated in unconventional ways. Founder and Creative Director, Oyuna Tserendorj draws on the Mongolian heritage she shares with the cashmere itself to achieve this, channeled through the fierce creativity of the London she now calls home.

The initial capsule collection was quickly snapped up by leading boutiques and department stores with a presence in Cassina Japan and Yakashimaya by 2003. The Home Collection has become the go-to destination for designed cashmere in the home and beyond. In 2009 Womenswear was launched to complement the existing Home & Accessories Collections, and Menswear followed in 2015.

Cashmere at Mint

A bespoke piece at Mint is part of OYUNA’s Hand to Hand Collection. The Hand to Hand pieces were borne from Tserendorj’s most recent collaborative adventure. Tserendorj has in the past worked with a diverse range of artists and artisans, combining her expertise and ideas with those of her peers across the design world.

For Hand to Hand she teamed up with Ismini Samanidou, a renowned hand-weaver. Samanidou’s progressively-minded affection for the dying art of hand-weaving resonated with Tserendorj’s vision inspired by the deel, an item of traditional clothing commonly worn for centuries among the Mongols and other nomadic tribes of Central Asia. Samanidou had never before worked with cashmere but managed to overcome the fibre’s delicate nature to craft a throw and shawl comprised of many different striking textures, patterns and techniques.

The piece summons the feel of times-gone-by: when every fibre of every possession was precious; when every piece was stitched, darned, repaired and replaced with an inventive desire to prolong life, creating something even more beautiful in the process.
