Hand-crafted sculptures at Mint

Among the other artists and designers featured in Mint’s spring exhibition Light Reflections we had some very unique & interesting pieces by ceramicists Fenella Elms, Bee Flowers, and Nicholas Lees. Please continue reading to find out a little more about the artists.

Bee Flowers

Bee Flowers’ background in the dairy industry has shaped his perception of human existence, thinking of it in terms of liquid surfaces from which individual consciousness emerges. His recent designs of limestone reliefs shaped into parts of the human body show the parallels between the spreading bacterial cultures in the dairy industry and the cultural intrusions spreading and incorporating themselves into parts of the self.

Fenella Elms

Fenella creates porcelain ceramics shaping them into flowing textures. The structures emerging under her hands are intended both for wall-hanging or as free-standing sculptures. She wants her work to be alive and responsive to light, placing the small porcelain pieces one after another in waves of movement, appearing like delicate illusions.

Nicholas Lees

British designer Nicholas Lees converts the sketches of his designs into objects studying elements like transversal sections, silhouettes and shadows. Combining digital and analogue techniques in the making process, he plays with the aesthetics creating pieces resembling a seismic signal, teetering on the edge of the abstract world and reality.
