The ‘Cotton Sash Studies’ at Mint

If you have visited Mint recently you may have seen the quirky and intriguing cotton vessels created by New York designer Doug Johnston.  The study looked at the how Doug could use an ancient technique similarly used to make coiled ceramic pottery and apply this to a new method with 100% cotton braided cord.  He was interested in turning a regular flat material into a 3D form, which naturally meant an exploration in 3D printing and prototyping.

Doug Johnston had a wide selection of baskets, bags and vessels available in many colour combination which can all be used by continuing through this post.
