Geometric Landscape – Silk Screen on Cotton
This collection captures natural environments and landscapes through fabric and wooden surfaces.
The theme of this work originates from research trips to the west coast of Scotland and is drawn upon it’s vast landscapes, capturing the harsh yet poetic character of local nature. Through a process of reduction this inspiration is simplified by use of bold colour, shape and print.
In keeping with natural environments, birch plywood is used to create this series of tiles. Vibrant, rich colour is applied to the surface of the wood through hand-dyed methods, accentuated with flashes of copper.
Landscape Compostion – Dyed Wood and Copper
Interrupting this, some tiles are digitally printed with a softer uncontrolled mark. The layers within the wood are also explored with routed elements to create further graphic interruption.
Playing with composition, the pieces explore positive and negative shapes in various arrangements. The graphic quality of the piece is striking, and can be rearranged to fit a specific space.
