Mint Interiors I Beirut Palace in Elle Déco Lebanon

In this month’s May/June issue, Elle Déco Lebanon has featured one of our interior design projects located in Beirut. It is a very special house that’s not to be missed. Built between 1830 and 1860, this astonishing palace belonged to Anastasia Dagher and his spouse, the great trader Moussa Sursock. The architects of the time were anonymous masons and artists, sometimes coming from as far as Italy, and the creators of what is today “the traditional Lebanese house”.

The palace suffered the Russian bombardments during the First World War. In the 70’s, the ceilings were demolished by a civil war. Today, the palace is a unique emblem of the country’s history, and a symbol of the city’s former glory. The scars of war haven’t disappeared; history has given a special beauty to this unique house. Walls, ceilings and floors are a perfect reflection on the variety of Arab art coexisting together.

The new resident was looking for a combination of design styles, where crafts and bespoke design would marry the inherent treasures of her home. The palace is a perfect example of East meets West, a combination between classic and contemporary. The astonishing chandelier by Lasvit, imported from the Czech Republic and mounted by the Czech craftsmen themselves, glows with pride in the big living room.

Below is a little insight into the house. If you are interested in knowing more about our interior projects, feel free to send us an email to info@mintshop.co.uk.

Rawan, the resident’s daughter, was also featured in the same issue of Elle Déco. Her apartment is a fresh and charismatic space located in a heritage building from the 40’s. She is a young illustrator with a passion for gouache, acrylics and pencil, so it is not surprising that her cozy home is full of color and energy. Some of Mint’s pieces appear in this inspiring article.
