Interning at Mint
I am the new intern at Mint, studying Design in Manchester but originally from West London. I am familiar with South Kensington and the huge amount of things to do. Wondering around I knew I would not be bored of things to do and see. There is a wide range of exhibitions on at the moment, which I always appreciate.
These are some that I particularly enjoyed:
Firstly the Serpentine Pavilion by Spanish duo Selgascanoa. A bright and playful instillation available for all to explore. A great place to relax and have some lunch.
The Victoria and Albert Museum is somewhere I have been going for years, one of my favourite sections is the Ceramics; as my design work is mainly in ceramics. My focus is creating narrative functional tableware. There is a huge amount of inspiration and history, each time I go I find new pieces, which inform my practice.
The exhibition ‘What is Luxury?’ is a collection of designers, makers and artists work that explores different definitions and interpretations of the word luxury; passion, skill, precision. Seeing this vast about of work has made me consider how I will define my own work and why. The old and new pieces have introduced new materials and processes to me.
The Travel Photographer of the Year exhibition was something slightly different, the extensive range of photos from around the world was eye opening to different cultures and landscapes, and they are both beautiful and educational.
The Serpentine Pavilion designed by Selgascano situated in Kensington Gardens.
Permanent Ceramic Gallery on the 6th floor in the V&A on Cromwell Road.
‘What is Luxury?’ An Exhibition at the V&A this summer, open to the public.
